It's time for the Urban Fantasy themed horoscope - Curious After Dark - once more for those of us know that ghosts, goblins and vampires are also written in the stars... Naomi Clark, our resident astrologist - who regularly spends hours if not days in worlds filled with paranormal wonder - tells it like it is for heros and heroines who fend off that which goes bump in the night.

AQUARIUSAll mythologies have their tricksters – from Loki to Coyote, there's always one who uses cunning to get ahead. It's nothing to be ashamed of – mind over matter is a great way to achieve your targets. It won't always win you allies though, so be careful what plans you make. Unlike the gods, you don't have an eternity to make things right! |
![]() |
PISCESGoing blindly into the unknown can be exhilarating, but it can also leave you vulnerable. Think Jack and the Beanstalk – sure, it worked out in the end, but Jack could easily have ended up giant food! There's nothing wrong with being adventurous, but it never hurts to have a back-up plan. |
|
|
ARIESAncient Egyptians believed we were all weighed and measured by Anubis in the afterlife, the jackal-headed god deciding whether we were worthy to enter the underworld. But is anyone else really qualified to pass judgement on us? Even a god? Outside validation is nice but you have to know in your heart you're making the right choices. Don't wait for messages from beyond – just trust your instincts and act. |
|
TAURUSIt's about time you put some fun back into your life. Maybe your role models could be the Maenads – the wild nymphs who followed Dionysus. A little dancing, a little loosening of your self-control... you might even like it! If you hold back too much in life, you miss out so much. Let yourself go crazy, just for a while. |
![]() |
GEMINITraditional folklore says that a doppelganger is a harbinger of doom and death. Modern psychology will tell you it's a manifestation of your dark side. Is there something you've been concealing that would be better off brought into the light? The longer you keep these dark impulses suppressed, the more damaging they are. Don't be afraid of letting your shadow self out every now and then. |
![]() |
CANCERIt might feel like every time you solve one problem, another one appears. It's kind of like zombies, right? There's never just one... The key to taking out zombies is strategy, not blind panic. The key to solving your problems is the same. The only way to success is a methodical approach. Whether you're tackling the undead or the mundane, keep that in mind and don't get swamped! |
![]() |
LEOIt's said that a unicorn could only be tamed by the purest of maidens. You may not have any mythical horses to get under control this month, but the rules still apply. Set out with good intentions, and your task will be easy. It's only when we try to complicate things for ourselves – and others – that the problems start. If you want to capture an elusive prize, approach it like a unicorn and see how far you get. |
![]() |
VIRGOThe basilisk was a monster so hideous it had to avoid it's own reflection or risk being turned to stone. What ugly truth are you hiding from at the moment? Isn't it better to confront things and move on, rather than remain paralysed by worry? The way forward may not be pleasant, but it's got to be than simply stagnating where you are. |
![]() |
LIBRAWhen the moon is full and the creatures of the night are on the prowl, which would you rather be – the hunter or the hunted? Thought so. If you want to run with the pack, or even lead it, you have to take chances and make tough decisions. Don't hold back for fear of what might happen, just get out there and take control! |
![]() |
SCORPIOMorrigan was the Celtic goddess of both battle and fertility – life and death. Seems like an odd juxtaposition, but the truth is we need these kinds of balances in life. We wouldn't know happiness if we didn't experience sadness. Just as Morrigan represents different aspects of humanity, you have to balance out the different parts of your life. Get the balance right and you'll live better for it. |
![]() |
SAGITTARIUSThe Valkyries collected fallen warriors from the battlefield and took them to Valhalla for their eternal rewards. You shouldn't have to go quite so far to get what you've worked for. Sacrifice isn't always the answer. Maybe it's time to look again at what you're working for and ask yourself if it's worth the effort you're putting in. |
![]() |
CAPRICORNIf you expect sorrow at every turn, it's inevitable you'll find it somewhere. Be careful you aren't becoming a bit of a banshee – wailing doom and disaster for everyone. You won't make friends that way. Banshees are never going to be popular house guests. Try looking for the silver lining instead of the cloud, and banish the doom and gloom for a while. |

AQUARIUSThere's a journey ahead of you in June, and like all the best journeys, it's going to be full of adventure, danger, and treasure (if you're lucky). Don't expect literal dragons and pots of gold – but be prepared to put up a fight to achieve your goals. And you might want to bring a wizard along with you; they're always handy for this sort of thing. |
![]() |
PISCESThe Hindu goddess Kali is often depicted as ferocious and deadly, but she had a noble goal – to free the gods from demonic forces. You might get misinterpreted a lot, but like Kali, your outward appearance hides the real you. Don't worry about other people's ignorance this month, just keep doing what you know is right. They'll understand in the end. |
|
|
ARIESThe Titans were the first rules of Olympus, until their children overthrew them. Like Cronus and Uranus before him, you might be feeling displaced at the moment, but the lesson these myths teach us is that change is inevitable. It's how we react to changes that defines our future. Don't fear the unknown ahead, but embrace it and make it what you want it to be. |
|
TAURUSIn folklore, so many imps and fairies are known as malevolent troublemakers when really they're just playing around with us. It's not their fault we overreact, right? Approaching a problem like it's bigger than it really is can prevent you solving it. Don't let imps become demons – you can resolve your issues by cutting them down to size. |
![]() |
GEMINIVisionaries and fortune-tellers are usually more interested in the future than the past, but there's a lot to be learned from looking back. The future is still up for grabs, but the past, seen clearly, can help shape it. Don't wait for psychic visions or signs from above before you make your choices – look at what's gone before and learn to move forward from there. |
![]() |
CANCERThe idea of reincarnation may seem crazy, but don't you love the idea of a fresh start and a new identity? If life deals you a few hard blows in the weeks ahead, remember that you can start again, and you don't need a literal reincarnation to do it. Your spirit is a lot tougher than you imagine, and you can come back from any knock-down renewed, rejuvenated, and ready to fight again. |
![]() |
LEOSometimes you have to take a risk to get ahead. Look at all those fairy tales – where would Cinderella be without a little courage? Would Hansel and Gretal have escaped the witch without a bit of tenacity. Okay, you're not fighting wicked witches or evil stepmothers, but the rules still apply. Gather your courage and be daring and you'll get your happily ever after. |
![]() |
VIRGOIn mythology, Cassiopeia was a proud queen who's vanity cost her everything she held dear. Nobody's going to flood your kingdom or send sea monsters after you for your pride, but that doesn't mean there are no consequences. Before you make any rash moves in June, weigh up the pros and cons and make sure your decision isn't going to lead to bigger problems later! |
![]() |
LIBRAA golem is a being created from clay and given life with magic. Without that magic, they're completely inanimate, and … well, don't you sometimes feel like there's a spark of magic missing from your life? Golems need outside forces to animate them, but the only thing holding you back is you. Don't wait for the magic to find you, get out there and grab it for yourself. |
![]() |
SCORPIOThe Rapture may not have happened this time around, but that doesn't mean you can't have your own personal Judgement Day. It doesn't have to be a bad thing – are there any opportunities you've let go that you can resurrect? Any lost friendships you can revitalise? This is time to reawaken your own potential – don't let it pass you by. |
![]() |
SAGITTARIUSIt's easy to dismiss that sixth sense that warns you of trouble round the corner as superstition, but deep down you know that intuition is right more often than not. Don't ignore your sixth sense this month – you don't have to be psychic to see where things are leading, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared either. |
![]() |
CAPRICORNJupiter was the Roman king of the gods, in charge of maintaining law and order in the heavens. That meant he couldn't play around as much as the other gods, which probably got a bit frustrating. You've been acting sensible and taking charge for a while now – you've earned a break. Let your hair down and go play. You don't have to be in control all the time! |

AQUARIUSBeing torn between two worlds is painful. Imagine how difficult it must have been for centaurs – half of one thing and half of another. Don't let yourself be stuck in limbo; have the courage to make a decision. You don't have to be caught between worlds and you don't have to give up half your being to make the choice either. |
![]() |
PISCESThere's a rule with faeries that you never eat their food and that their gifts only last til sunrise before turning to lead. Don't go trusting someone just because they look good – when the glamour fades they may not be all they seemed. Like faerie gold, some things are just superficial and not worth spending your time on. All that glitters and all that... |
|
|
ARIESUsually when we think of reincarnation, we assume we have to die first. Well, yeah, but maybe we can remake ourselves without going to such extremes. If you want to change, it doesn't have to be a painful process – and you don't have to come back as a bug. Think big, work hard, and you can be reborn a little more easily than you think. |
|
TAURUSSometimes it'd be great to be psychic – it would solve so many problems and avoid so many misunderstandings. The downside would be having no more surprises. If you can read everyones' minds, you risk knowing too much! Sometimes it's better to be in the dark; there's a lot of enjoyment to be had in a secret or two. |
![]() |
GEMINILady Luck is a fickle mistress. If you really want to get things done, don't rely on mythical forces, but work your own magic. A little initiative and a little intuition will take you a long way – much further than waiting for Fate to make a decision will. And it's worth keeping in mind that Fate's plans might be very different to yours. |
![]() |
CANCERSalamanders are fire spirits – fickle, playful, but potentially dangerous. In legend, salamanders were supposed to be born of flame, so they also had to be pretty tough! There's a lesson there for you this month. Like the salamander, you need to be resilient and keep a sense of humour – but prepared to strike against people who'd hold you down. |
![]() |
LEOMermaids often lead enraptured sailors to drown if they let themselves be lured in. Take it as a warning – just because something looks beautiful, doesn't mean it's good for you. Giving in to temptation can be fun in the short term, but long term it can be hard to fix the damage done. Don't give in to siren songs – stay true to yourself. |
![]() |
VIRGORemember the fairy tale of Jack and Beanstalk? From little things grow mighty ones … but sometimes there's a giant obstacle to overcome to get to the top! Fairytales always have a message for us, so before you set any plans in action, make sure you're prepared to take on whatever wicked witches or giants that you'll met on your way. |
![]() |
LIBRAEternal youth, eternal beauty … seems like a good deal if all you have to do is drink a little blood and stay out of the sun, right? Not much to give up. Some sacrifices seem small at first, but once you're living with the consequences, they can become much bigger. Think before you give up anything precious – forever is a long time to be in the dark. |
![]() |
SCORPIOThe goddess Freya rode in a chariot pulled by two cats – a pretty fancy way to travel. She also bargained with dwarves for jewellry, which probably wasn't her finest hour. If you've got deals to make this month, be sure you read the small print. You may be dealing with dwarves, but it still pays to be cautious. |
![]() |
SAGITTARIUSThe phrase 'a ghost of a chance' doesn't inspire much confidence. Ghosts aren't exactly synonymous with good luck and fortune after all. But perhaps you can take some inspiration from the spirit world this month – be invisible, be silent, and let other people wonder what you're really about. It might give you an edge you didn't anticipate. |
![]() |
CAPRICORNOdin gave up an eye for wisdom. A bit extreme, perhaps, but sometimes we have to give up something precious to gain something even more valuable. How much are you ready to sacrifice for what you want? If you're feeling brave this month, put your money where your mouth is. |

AQUARIUSYou've been a little dreamy lately, playing in fantasy worlds. Time to wake up and get back into the real world! Sure, reality doesn't hold all the possibilities that the dream world does, but with a little ingenuity you can shape reality as cleverly as your dreams. |
![]() |
PISCESYou're not usually the impulsive type, but maybe you've been a bit rash lately. No harm done really, but be careful you don't rush in where angels fear to tread. After all, angels are a lot wiser than us mere mortals, so it can't hurt to follow their example from time to time. Clip your wings, just for a while. |
|
|
ARIESYou’ve been uncharacteristically aggressive in chasing success lately – maybe it’s time to rein in those animal instincts for a while? Traditionally, werewolves only came out once a month after all. Don't waste all your energy chasing your own tail! |
|
TAURUSDid you know the earliest recorded sightings of unicorns were actually antelopes? Takes away the magic a little, right? Well, sometimes you have to make your own magic. The most mundane things can be transformed with a little fantasy – let your imagination run wild and see what you can come up with. |
![]() |
GEMINIExpect a few spiritual experiences over the next few weeks. Outside influences will have you a bit confused and some developments might catch you off-guard, but it’s nothing to worry about. Sometimes forces we can't explain like to trip us up. It's best to keep your mind open and maybe a lucky charm on hand! |
![]() |
CANCERYou might have a sense of going round in circles this month, so take a page out of Theseus's book and remember to mark your way out of the maze! And beware the monsters lurking at the heart of it – maybe you won't be contending with minotaurs, but we're very good at making our own demons. |
![]() |
LEOIf you’re feeling restless and bored with your routine, this is the ideal time to shake things up a bit. Odysseus crammed a lot of adventure in just by getting lost, so don't be afraid to wander off the beaten path. Lotus eaters, cyclops and witches may be just the change of pace you're after. |
![]() |
VIRGOYou're not, sadly, a mermaid. There are times when you feel like you’re swimming upstream and just getting nowhere fast. Maybe you need to get back on solid ground and find a new solution to your problem – have you thought about being a dragon and just soaring over the obstacles in your path? |
![]() |
LIBRAYour current routine is safe, but do you always want to be 'safe'? There's a lot to be said for a little danger to spice things up. Strap on your weapon of choice and head out into the fray. Whether you're facing wicked witches or capricious fey folk, you should find something to get your blood pumping! |
![]() |
SCORPIOA good gargoyle looks grotesque but that always hides a noble purpose – to protect and defend. Be sure you aren't judging someone for their looks rather than their actions right now – better to have a gargoyle as a friend rather than an enemy! |
![]() |
SAGITTARIUSYou’re going to have to be resilient in the face of some bad luck. You’re a perceptive person, so you should know to avoid walking under ladders and breaking mirrors, but it always bears repeating. No need to resort to rabbit feet yet, but if you know a friendly gypsy, you could stock up on good luck potions. |
![]() |
CAPRICORNYou’ve risen above a certain situation and are holding your head high. That's fine, but remember what happened to Icarus when he rose too far. Enjoy your success, but don't burn your wings – there's still a long flight ahead of you. |

AQUARIUSThere's a theory that every building has a genius loci, a protective spirit. You may not believe in them, but they believe in you, so it's probably worth leaving a saucer of cream out if you're looking for some good luck this month! There's no harm keeping them happy, and it could pay off for you too. |
![]() |
PISCESThere's a saying that goes “as above, so below,” and there's no denying that we sometimes feel like the cosmos are working against us. If the stars and planets really do have bearings on our lives, you might want to pay more attention to them in March. |
|
|
ARIESAlthough it's easy to feel overburdened and overwhelmed, your skills are more than enough to cope with the load you're carrying right now. Dig down deep and look for the inner strength you've been hiding away. You might not be Hercules, but you can take inspiration from him and slay whatever monsters come your way. |
|
TAURUSThe first weapon you need if you're fighting a dragon is the belief you can win. If you don't have that, no amount of swords or spears will help you succeed. Remember that as you face your personal dragons in March – believe enough and you'll get the gold. |
![]() |
GEMINIDarkness hides a whole world beyond your imagining. It's not all dangerous or deceitful either; there can be real beauty in the shadows. Set aside your preconceptions and venture to the dark side. You'll uncover a world of new experiences. |
![]() |
CANCERA close-minded perspective will get you nowhere this month. You need to be open to whatever influences come your way to make the most of life right now. Be prepared to trust your instincts and let those unseen forces guide you forwards. The spirit world usually knows what it's doing, so don't be afraid to follow where it leads. |
![]() |
LEOLook out for unusual messages in March. There can be a lot of symbolism in the natural world, so stay attuned if you don't want to miss out. A strange pattern in the clouds, a crow calling, a black cat in your path – they're all omens, and they're all waiting for your interpretations. |
![]() |
VIRGOEvery brave adventurer knows the rewards of a new quest. You've overcome adversity and put past failures behind you. It's time to move out into new realms and explore new ideas and dreams. Venture boldly into these unknown places and you'll discover new aspects of yourself too. |
![]() |
LIBRAThe serpent in Eden certainly has plenty to answer for, but remember that temptation takes two! If you're torn between the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other, be sure to weigh up all the pros and cons of giving in. Vice and virtue can balance each other out, but do you want to risk it? |
![]() |
SCORPIOSometimes our inner beast threatens to take over, and sometimes this is bad for us. But every now and then, it can be good to let the wolf run free. Our atavistic sides are sometimes more in tune with our needs than we are, so don't be afraid to unleash your inner animal and run wild for a while. |
![]() |
SAGITTARIUSA little bit of everyday magic can transform life for you. And you can find magic everywhere, if you take the time to look. You don't have to be a fully-trained witch to work a few spells for luck or happiness. Just keep your eyes open for charms and opportunities, and you'll be amazed at what you can do. |
![]() |
CAPRICORNCompassion and kindness will bring unexpected rewards this month. Like many rewards though, there may be a dark side. Remember the genie of the lamp, the monkey's paw? Your wishes can backfire if you're not careful, so think before you cash in your prize; there's often a hidden catch. |

AQUARIUSThere are those who believe the spirit world is always close at hand, and that the dead often have messages for the living. Pay close attention to the unseen world in the weeks ahead – someone may be trying to tell you something. Just because the message doesn't come through conventional means, doesn't mean you can't believe it! |
![]() |
PISCESWhen you've suffered a heavy emotional loss, it can be hard to believe you'll ever feel happy again. But don't despair; a little faith in the universe will take you a long way. Why not try looking for a little fairy dust to add some sparkle back? Just keep in mind how tricky those so-called Gentle Folk can be – another reminder that things aren't always what they seem! |
|
|
ARIESThey say there's no rest for the wicked, but surely even the naughtiest devil needs a break sometimes? Instead of pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion, stop and get away from it all for a while. That'll free you up to get some really indulgent sinning going on... |
|
TAURUSSometimes you have to let things fall apart in order to start over. It's easy to let yourself panic at times like this, but remember the story of the phoenix? It may seem like you've burnt all your bridges, but beautiful things can rise from the ashes. |
![]() |
GEMINILife takes us dark places sometimes, and the way back isn't always clear. Take a tip from the fairy tales and be sure to leave yourself a trail to follow. There are some scary things out there, so don't be ashamed to ask for help if the monsters start nipping at your heels! |
![]() |
CANCERRemember Hamlet? The Devil hath power to assume a pleasing shape... Don't take things at surface value and don't be lured in by a deal that seems to good to be true – it probably is! Keep those devils at bay and beware of serpents offering fruit. You know the drill. |
![]() |
LEOAs a fire sign, you're inclined to be a little hot-headed, but you might want to take a deep breath before letting rip this month. Think of Icarus – flying too close to the fun usually ends badly. Keep your temper under wraps and your wings safe if you don't want to get burnt. |
![]() |
VIRGOThe ancient art of alchemy was all about making gold from lead. Weave a little magic and you'll be amazed at what you can make out of what looks like a mess. It might take a bit of practice, but with a little wand-waving, you'll have a whole pile of jewels where before you only had stones. |
![]() |
LIBRAYou're ruled by Venus, the planet of love. In Roman mythology, Venus played a big part in household religion, and this month might be a good time to focus on your home life. If that doesn't sound like much fun, keep in find that Venus was also the goddess of desire and passion... |
![]() |
SCORPIOIn mythology, Charon the ferryman had to be paid before he'd take you across the River Styx. Is there something you owe before you can move on? Think hard and figure out what's holding you back on your journey. |
![]() |
SAGITTARIUSSome obstacles seem impassable, until you understand how to deal with them. The Sphinx was beaten with knowledge, after all. Engage your brain and put your riddle-solving powers to the test, and you'll find this impassable objects a bit less intimidating. |
![]() |
CAPRICORNThere's a lot of power in a full moon. Werewolves, witches, and all kinds of otherwordly creatures are lured out by it's light. Take a leaf from their book and let yourself go this month. There's a lot of fun in letting out your hidden wild side, so let the moon guide you! |

We're extremely proud to announce that Naomi Clark's werewolf novel SILVER KISS has received high praise from the American Library Association Over the Rainnbow Project as this Urban Fantasy novel has been listed in their 2011 TOP 11 recommended books!
"The Over the Rainbow readers are VERY PROUD to announce their inaugural list of 108 adult books.
We would also like to mention our top ten favorites, which turned into eleven titles because there were
just so many really excellent books published this year."
SILVER KISS

AQUARIUSYou're going to find a lot to entertain you in January. An extrovert like you is going to have no shortage of invitations, but be picky about which ones you accept – if a vampire invites for a bite or a witch asks you out for a spell, be sure you know exactly what you're getting into!

PISCESYou could be in for a rude awakening in the weeks ahead. There's more to this world – and to you – than you could guess, and if you look hard enough, you'll find magic in the most unexpected places. Dare to experiment and make some magic for yourself. The outcome will amaze you. |

ARIESOvercoming your inner fears can be a scary prospect, but it's the only way to truly move forward and leave the ghosts of the past behind. Don't let old troubles haunt you – banish those ghosts and step into the sunlight again. It's time to be proud of who you are. |
|
TAURUSAn open and direct approach is your usual plan of attack. For an earth sign like you, that's easy enough; the tricky part is knowing when to back down! It's tempting to go after what you want like a werewolf on the hunt, but maybe a gentler approach is needed here? Think puppy dog, not man-beast. |

GEMINIStriking a balance between two very different ways of living might seem impossible, but don't fret. Vampires and werewolves have been doing it for centuries, and they're doing okay, right? So your path isn't for everyone – that's because it's your path. Stay on it and everything will fall into place. |

CANCERAre you clinging too tightly to something that's bad for you? Water signs like you struggle to give up negative emotions, but it's for the best. Remember, in Greek mythology Cancer was a crab crushed by Hercules – don't let yourself get stomped by something you can let go of! |

LEOYou're not always comfortable with introspection, which means there's a still a lot for you to learn about yourself. Sure, you might find some dragons that need slaying along the way, but that's all part of the adventure. And there's always a chance one of those dragons is really a prince or princess in disguise. |

VIRGOIf we don't face our personal demons, we may be confronted by them. Are you ready to face down anything bearing horns and a pitchfork? If not, just look to your guardian angel for assistance – we all need a little heavenly help from time to time, so don't be afraid to ask for it! |

LIBRAIf you're waiting for Fate to turn in your favour, stop. We all know how fickle a mistress Fate is, and if take control for yourself, you'll get results much faster. The Wheel of Fortune spins slowly and you can't guarantee where it stops, so make your own fortune and see how much faster you move. |

SCORPIONot all relationships are equal. It's time you stepped back and asked exactly what you're getting out of yours. All deals with the Devil seem sweet at first, but that's part of the act! It might be time to find yourself a good demonologist and break this particular pact. |

SAGITTARIUSKeeping yourself shut away can be unhealthy. Just look at Harry Potter – wasn't it better for him once he came out from under the stairs? You might be surprised at how supportive people will be if you ask, and much less intimidating the world is when you're not alone. |

CAPRICORNEver notice how hard vampires seem to find it to keep up with modern life? They're constantly looking back! Don't be a vampire; embrace the present and the wonders it offers. Look forward to the future and the promises it holds. Don't waste the new year worrying about the old one. |
Astrology by NAOMI CLARK
Author of the URBAN WOLF series Naomi Clark lives in Cambridge and is a mild-mannered office worker by day, but a slightly crazed writer by night. She has a perfectly healthy obsession with giant sea creatures and a preference for vodka-based cocktails. When she's not writing, Naomi is probably either reading or watching 80s cartoon shows, and sometimes she manages to do all three at once.
